The meaning of the novel's title seems fairly obvious at first glance, but can we interpret it in more ways than one?

The obvious meaning is the return of Clym to Egdon heath. It could also be interpreted as a return to the basic rural atmosphere. Eustacia doesn't fit with life in the heath and doesn't try to make a good life there. She dreams of faraway places and pulls everyone around her into despair and sadness. With her death, the remaining characters return to their simple life with nature. The heath is no longer referred to as dismal or plain, but a pleasant place the characters call home.
The native in the title could also be the return of Diggory, since he returns in the beginning of the novel, ends up staying in the heath, and eventually married Thomasin. Clym is the obvious choice as the native that returns because he comes home from Paris and hopes of staying on the heath. In the of the novel there is a return to normality after the death of Eustacia and Wildeve. Everyone is more at peace with each other and their lives at the end of novel.
