Emma experiences several major revelations in the novel that fundamentally change her understanding of herself and those around her. Which revelation do you think is most important to Emma’s development, and why?
In the beginning of the book, Emma Woodhouse seemed to be convinced she would never like a guy much less marry one. After encouraging Harriet to pursue Mr. Elton, Emma’s plan backfires and she ends up falling for Mr. Elton. I think this is the most important revelation to Emma’s development because it was the first thing in which she had no control over. Emma was so caught up in arranging others’ lives that she fails to realize her own relationship potentials.
