Our dreams don't always turn out the way we think they should. Clym's time in the city showed him a side of the world he hungered for while in the heath, but he disliked being selfish and returned to his home in order to educate others. God sometimes answers our prayers in the best way, but not necessarily the way we expect. Clym may have gone to Paris in search of something more in life, but he had to return home in order to find his true purpose.

Many people see the city as the perfect place to live. The people of the heath saw moving to the city as the ideal life. Clym however, saw the reality of it. He sees that the city has a "everyone for themselves" attitude and doesn't want to be part of it. He would rather start a school where he could teach children. The universal truth is that riches don't make you a rich person. Clym would get more satisfaction out of teach others then owning lots of money.
