A major coincidence is the gambling between Wildeve and Christian. Christian loses all the guineas, and Diggory Venn wins all of them back, but does not know half of them belong to Clym. This mistake leads to the death of Ms. Yeobright and the end of Clym and Eustacia's marriage. Several coincidences occur in chance meetings between characters, such as Wildeve and Eustacia's reuniting at the party. This is probably more foreshadowing than coincidence, but I thought the voodoo doll of Eustacia made by the young boy's mother was interesting. Coincidence plays a role in the novel because the physical distance between characters makes it necessary for any meetings between them to have a big impact in the plot.
Another coincidence from the novel would be Diggory's accidental happening upon Eustacia and Wildeve's secret meeting. Before Diggory started to tell people what he had heard, the other characters didn't think there was anything important going on inbetween the two. This coincidence really sets off the rest of the novel. Another example is when Diggory hears Eustacia brush by his tent when she is running away with Wildeve. Diggory runs to tell Clym and Thomasin which in end leads to Eustacia and Wildeve's death.
